The Newtown Jets are set to field a squad featuring a large contingent of Sharks contracted players when they take on the Newcastle Knights in Round 1 of the Canterbury Cup on Friday afternoon.
To be played as the curtain-raiser to the Sharks v Knights NRL clash, the Jets will be looking to build on a successful 2018 campaign with a first-up win at McDonald Jones Stadium in the round one match-up.
A crop of young Sharks who have trained through the pre-season with the NRL squad have been named in the Jets side, included amongst them the likes of Will Kennedy, Braydon Trindall, Billy Magoulias, Isaac Lumelume and Braden Hamlin-Uele.
Also playing his first official game for the Newtown club will be former Bulldog and Kiwi international Greg Eastwood.
The Jets finished third after the regular season in 2018 before winning their way into the Intrust Super Premiership Grand Final, only to go down in a closely fought contest to the Bulldogs.
In the two games played last year between Newtown and Newcastle the Jets were comfortable winners on both occasions.
The Jets v Knights Canterbury Cup match is scheduled for a 3.45pm kick off on Friday, with the NRL game between Cronulla and Newcastle to follow at 6.00pm
