People with a disability can play for the Cronulla Sharks in a modified version of rugby league thanks to an exciting new initiative – Score Sharks.
In partnership with The Disability Trust, the Sharks are hosting a free 'Come and Try' event on March 27 at PointsBet Stadium for participants aged 16-plus.
The session will offer attendees the chance to take part in fun games and drills alongside NRL players and learn about Score Sharks.
The Come and Try event is free to attend, however, as Score Sharks will be run as a Sport and Recreation program by The Disability Trust, participants will need to have access to NDIS funding. The Disability Trust will be present to answer all questions and provide more information on the program.
Score Sharks team members will meet for a weekly training session to build their football and social skills.
The program is modelled on Score Dragons, started in 2014 by the St George Illawarra club. Participants play a game of two-handed touch rugby league each week against local junior teams, with a staff member from The Disability Trust and the Dragons on the field at all times to assist the players.
Score Sharks is the latest endeavour showcasing the Sharks' commitment to ensuring rugby league is an inclusive game for all abilities and backgrounds.
NRLW star Emma Tonegato, the club's Equal Access Program Lead, has driven several footy clinics for people with a disability already this year.
