While the Jersey Flegg Sharks and the Newtown Jets in the Knock On Effect NSW Cup both scored impressive last start wins, the challenge steps up a notch this weekend when they face Souths in crucial round 22 matches.

The Jets are fifth, the Rabbitohs fourth in the NSW Cup, the Sharks fourth and Souths fifth on the Jersey Flegg ladder, which means both games have serious Finals ramifications.

The Flegg Sharks had a number of outstanding moments, while also letting their opponents back into the contest with some lapses in concentration, before going on with the job in recording a 36-12 victory over Manly last weekend.

The win kept the under-21 Sharks in the hunt for a top five Finals berth.

In the Sea Eagles winThe Sharks also debuted their two recent Australian Schoolboys selections in Liam Challenor and Jamie Curren, with both confidently handling the step up to the more senior age group and performing strongly.

This weekend however the assignment is potentially a more difficult one against a Souths team also battling for a Finals berth.

The Sharks and Rabbitohs have met once already in 2026, the Cronulla side running out 36-16 winners in a round 10 match.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 1 - KICK OFF 3.00PM

After three close losses, the Newtown Jets returned to the winner circle with a dominant 52-6 victory over the Sea Eagles at Four Pines Park.

Led by the Sharks front row combination of Braden Uele and Toby Rudolf, complemented by a standout performance from Liam Ison at the back, the Jets were far too good for Manly as they moved back to fifth position on the ladder.

This weekend, the Jets face a Rabbitohs outfit also fighting for a place in the top five and the upcoming Finals series.

The two teams have met once previously this year, the Jets coming out on top by 26-18.
