With a number of different options available for all ages, from the regular full contact version, to men’s, women’s and girl’s tag, there is no excuse not to get in touch with your local club and to Play Junior League in 2019
The Cronulla Sutherland District Junior League have versions of the game for Boys, Girls, Mums and Dads, suitable for all shapes, sizes and abilities, with the new season soon to get underway.
Competitions will again be conducted from under 6’s, all the way up to the Open age first Grade Gold for the men, with everything in between, with the 14 local Sutherland Shire clubs still accepting registrations.
Last year the local competitions boasted outstanding numbers, with over 4,400 players, boosted by 16 per cent of those coming through female participation, a record number due largely to the increased popularity amongst the girls and the non-tackle offerings.
Cronulla JRL General Manager Amanda Kayes has been encouraged by registrations throughout the district so far and predicted another bumper year for all forms of the game.
“We are anticipating another successful season in 2019. The JRL Executive and JRL Clubs are all very committed to providing a family friendly environment, with a safe and healthy Rugby League competition for all ages,” Ms Kayes said.
“We encourage Mums, Dads, Boys and Girls to come together and keep the greatest game of all alive and strong in the Shire.”
Female Blues Tag has proved extremely popular and will this year offer under 9’s, 11’s, 13’s, 15’s, Over 35’s and Opens, with a Female League Touch for the under 7’s also set to take place.
Also in 2019 in addition to the long-standing traditional age group and Open age competitions, in non-tackle versions for the men, Blues Tag will include over 35’s and Opens this season.
If running around the field isn’t for you, JRL Clubs aren’t just looking for players but are always on the lookout for volunteers, trainers, coaches, managers and anybody wanting to make a contribution to the game of rugby league at the grassroots level.
And as a reward for participation in 2019, all players (Under 16), volunteers, coaches and officials can redeem FREE tickets to the NRL Telstra Premiership.
Throughout the season Under 6’s to 8’s will also be given the chance to play footy on the big stage and in front of the crowd at Shark Park on a Sharks NRL game day.
