It had appeared as if the Jets had stolen victory with a 75th minute try to Sione Katoa last Saturday, until the Bears were able to equalise as the fulltime siren was sounding, with the two teams playing out a thrilling 22-all draw in their Intrust Super Premiership match.
Playing for the Frank Hyde Shield, in the final wash up a draw was probably a fair result, with the Bears the front runners for most of the contest.
With injuries to the Sharks NRL squad, the depth of the Jets was tested last weekend and will be again this week when they face Mounties in a round 10 clash on Saturday afternoon.
Jets regulars Jack Williams and Braden Uele have been named in the Sharks squad, as have youngsters Kyle Flanagan and Briton Nikora, with Shane Flanagan to assess his injuries as the week goes on before finalising his team, leaving Newtown somewhat unsure as to the make-up of their side until later in the week.
The draw with the Bear kept Newtown in the top eight, but they face a difficult challenge to stay there when they play the first-placed Mounties squad.
The match is set down for Aubrey Keech Reserve on Saturday, with kick off at 3.00pm.
