Beaten on the buzzer last Saturday afternoon at Parramatta, the NYC Sharks will play their final match of the 2015 season this weekend against Manly’s U20s
Leading 32 points to 28 with just seconds remaining at the Pirtek Stadium, James Shepherd’s side could not hang on to seal the win, with Eels hooker and captain Zach Dockar-Clay converting a try after the siren to send the hosts home as winners.
But with last week’s lost now a distant memory, the Sharks will be out to finish their 2015 campaign on a winning note against a Manly side that sits right on the cusp of a top four berth a week out from the NYC finals.
While the loss at Parramatta would have been a bitter pill to swallow, the result was not all doom and gloom, with debutant Jack Rogers – son of Club legend Mat Rogers and grandson of the late Steve Rogers – scoring a treble of tries on his maiden Sharks outing.
Father Mat said he “couldn’t be prouder” of his son, in seeing how hard he has worked over the last 12 months in transitioning from Rugby Union to League, and earning a start at the Club so close to the family’s hearts.
In other team news, Jack Williams retains his place in the halves, while Anthony Moraitis has been named to play in his regular back-row role having filled in at left centre last weekend
The game will also see a number of NYC squad members playing their final games in the under-20’s competition, with a handful set to move onto senior football with the Sharks from 2016.
Out of the Manly camp, young-gun Tom Trbojevic has once again been named to play in the 20s despite starring in first grade when given the chance earlier on this season.
The Sharks v Manly match is scheduled for a 1.45pm kick off on Sunday afternoon, with fans encouraged to get to Remondis Stadium early, for what is expected to be a big crowd and a big afternoon in the Shire.
