Sharks star and NSW Origin hopeful Luke Lewis has been charged with a Grade 1 dangerous throw stemming from Saturday night's match against the Titans.

The match review committee charged Lewis for a tackle on Titan Dave Taylor in the 67th minute of the match, with the incident attracting 125 points and a one-match ban were he to choose to challenge and lose.

If Lewis was to accept the early guilty plea he would be penalised 93 carry-over points and would be free to play for NSW in State of Origin game one if selected.

The charge puts something of a dampener on what was an outstanding performance from Lewis in the Sharks golden point win, with his efforts virtually assuring him of selection in the Blues squad due to be announced tomorrow.

In other match review findings as released a short time ago, Queensland captain Cameron Smith received a grade one dangerous contact charge however like Lewis should he accept the penalty and take the early plea he would be free to play for the Maroons next Wednesday night.
