NSW Women's Premiership: Round 3 v Steelers

The NSW Women’s Premiership Sharks bounced back from a Round 1 loss with a 26-18 victory over Mounties on Saturday.

Cronulla got off to a flyer with Alesha Williams scoring in the 2nd minute, they then raced to an 18-0 lead within twenty minutes.

Mounties got back into the game scoring the next 4 tries, but missed conversions kept them level at 18 all.

Sharks’ halfback Julliana Kolio came in clutch, scoring in the 62nd minute, and her halves partner Ella Ropata kicked the extras.

Ropata then followed up her perfect record for the day with a penalty goal on full-time to claim a 26-18 victory.

The competition’s reigning premiers now take on the unbeaten Illawarra Steelers in Wollongong, and they could have a late addition to the team list.

Winger Courtney Tyrell has signed with Cronulla from Norths Devils in the BMD Premiership, where she was the leading try-scorer last season, with 12 in 12 games.

Sharks coach Tony Herman is happy to have her on board.

“Courtney caught our eye last season with the ability to break tackles and score tries. She is a power athlete with great speed. We are excited to begin working with her and watch her development with great mentors already at the club,” Herman said.

You can catch their game against Illawarra from 3:00pm on Saturday at Collegians Sporting Complex, Wollongong.
