Sharks go back for seconds in deal with PNG’s top biscuit brand

After joining forces last season, the Sharks and Lae Biscuit Company – Papua New Guinea's favourite snack brand – have extended their groundbreaking partnership into 2024.

The distinctive yellow Lae Biscuit logo will again proudly reside on the back-right panel of the club's NRL shorts, with the business filling that slot on the playing kit since round 20 of 2023.

As the long-time major sponsor of four-time Papua New Guinean champions Lae Snax Tigers, the Lae Biscuit team - headed by chairman Ian Chow - are passionate supporters of rugby league who have brought their enthusiasm to the Sharks family.

"We sincerely thank Mr Ian Chow and Lae Biscuit for their continued support," Sharks CEO Dino Mezzatesta said.

"It's an honour to be involved with such a reputable company as they aim to crack the Australian market with their world-class products.

"With Papua New Guinea being the only country on earth to consider rugby league its national sport, the Sharks are privileged to have a formal link to the land through Lae Biscuit.

"PNG represents a massive market for our game and, on the strength of this partnership, we hope to continue growing our fan base across the nation after memorably trialling there in 2020."

Mr Chow added: "We are just as excited to continue our partnership with the Cronulla Sharks for the 2024 season.

"Our partnership is brought together by the family-like environment that Cronulla has displayed as they welcomed us in 2023.

"We trust that this partnership will continue to strengthen the support of loyal PNG fans and can give a stronger sense of pride when they see our yellow logo on the shorts of an NRL club on live television."

The Lae Biscuit Company was acquired by the Chow family in 1972 and now stands as the largest biscuit producer in the Pacific region.

Operating from a newly opened factory, the Lae Biscuit Company also produces famous instant noodles under their Snax line in catering to the needs of every Papua New Guinean.

Lae Biscuit's dedication to rugby league is reflected in the success of the Lae Snax Tigers, the club the company has sponsored since the inception of the PNG domestic competition in 2011.

The Tigers, who count new Wests Tigers centre Justin Olam and a multitude of other Kumuls representatives among their alumni, have won local premierships in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022.

The club's excellence has resulted in them providing numerous players as a feeder team to the PNG Hunters, who compete in the Queensland Cup competition.
