It was an exciting 2022 season for the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership (HNWP) Sharks.
Winning their way through to the Grand Final, which ultimately proved to be the game of the season, the Sharks literally came within seconds of claiming the title, pipped by the Wests Tigers in Golden Point extra time after leading into the final minute of the match.
Now with the 2022 season coming to an end, the Sharks turn their attention to 2023, a year in which they will take their place in the elite level NRLW competition after being granted a license to compete.
However, while planning has already begun for the 2023 NRLW, so too have preparations for the HNWP, with the Sharks to enter a team in the senior NSWRL Women’s competition to complement their NRLW squad and to complete their women’s pathways.
With the Sharks fielding their first Lisa Fiaola Cup Under-17’s team, which feeds into the Under-19 Tarsha Gale squad, with talented young players then earning the opportunity to move into senior rugby league at the open age HNWP level and ultimately the NRLW, the Sharks have all pathways in place as they provide opportunities for female athletes in growing the women’s game.
Quincy Dodd, Talei Holmes and more recently Andie Robinson, Zali Fay and Tegan Dymock, examples of young Sharks women to come through the junior pathways and development system to play at an NRLW level and beyond.
In relation to the HNWP, the Sharks are inviting expressions of interest from players wanting to be a part of the team, and the Club’s women’s pathways, for the upcoming 2023 season.
