Round 13: Man of the Match

The votes have been counted and Sharks members and fans have had their say on the man of the match from the narrow loss to the Eels last Sunday with Shaun Johnson the standout selection as his teams best.

Johnson was in the thick of the action in the atrocious conditions, laying on a try for Jesse Ramien with a perfectly weighted kick and proving to be a thorn in the Eels side throughout the contest.

Only for a goal kick which rebounded off the upright and another that shaved the posts on what was a difficult night for kickers in the driving wind and rain and the result could have been different, however Sharks fans were overwhelming in their support of Johnson who collected 48 percent of the vote as Round 13 Man of the Match.

With the three points Johnson now jumps to a clear lead in the race for the Fan Poll Player of the Year, with seven matches remaining in the 2020 season.

Also catching the eye of Sharks members and fans was Ronaldo Mulitalo, the young winger bagging a try-scoring double while defensively keeping the dangerous Eels left-side attack of Maika Sivo and Michael Jennings in check for the much of the afternoon.

Muliltalo polled 15 per cent of the vote, just ahead of skipper Wade Graham (13%) who delivered another inspired captain’s knock in a performance that almost saw his team come home over the top of their highly-rated rivals.

Toby Rudolf, Siosifa Talakai and Josh Dugan were others to earn fan support in the round 13 poll.

With his three points Johnson has jumped out to a four-point lead in the Player of the Year race, with Dugan a clear second.
