Exciting young outside back Sam Stonestreet has extended his time at the Sharks in signing a new multi-year contract.
The 23-year-old local product has agreed to a three-year deal, with Stonestreet now committed to the Sharks until at least the end of the 2029 season.
From the De La Salle Caringbah club and having come through the Sharks pathways system, Stonestreet was thrilled to have secured his footballing future and was looking forward to locking down one of the Sharks wing positions long-term.
“This has always been my home, I grew up here, I’ve been in the development system since Harold Matts and I’m excited to be here for another three years” Stonestreet said.
“I’m grateful for the faith shown in me by Fitzy and the club and while I know it’s not going to come easy and I’ve got to work for it, I want to try to lock down a wing spot in the years to come.”
Sharks General Manager of Football Darren Mooney was pleased to have secured Stonestreet’s services for three more years and has every confidence he will continue to improve on what he has achieved so far and develop into a top class outside back.
“Sam’s continued development over the past few years is a testament to his hard work and dedication," Mooney said.
"While he is still learning his craft, we believe he will continue to grow under the guidance of our coaching staff.
"With good speed, strong aerial ability, and a proven eye for the try line, Sam has all the attributes to give himself every chance of securing a regular place in our starting side in the years ahead,” Mooney added.
The Sharks 2025 Rookie of the Year, Stonestreet has scored 19 tries in just 26 matches in the NRL since making his debut, and standing at 193cm tall, is an attacking weapon under the high ball.
A former Sharks Junior Representative Player of the Year, Stonestreet debuted in the NRL in round seven of the 2024 season, before playing another four matches that year.
He would play in the top grade on 11 occasions in 2025, before being a part of the Sharks NRL team for all 10 matches in 2026. Stonestreet’s amazing try-scoring run would see him cross the stripe 16 times in his first 16 games.
