Junior reps preview | Round 4

It's the battle of the beaches on Saturday with the young Sharks heading over the Spit Bridge to face the Manly Sea Eagles.

After only one win for Cronulla in four junior representative matches last weekend - the Harold Matthews team clinched a one-point thriller against the Raiders - they'll hope their first road trip of the season brings good luck across the board.

Here's how our teams are shaping up for the clashes at 4 Pines Park.

While it was somewhat of a patchy performance, the under-17 Sharks stepped up when it mattered to score a vital 19-18 win over Canberra in round three.

The result took their record to 2-1, putting Cronulla in seventh spot (only behind fifth on points differential). To continue their surge up the ladder this week, Brad Kelly's troops must hand the third-placed Sea Eagles their first defeat.

Manly enjoyed the bye in round one before comfortably beating the Dragons and Rabbitohs, conceding just six points in both matches.

Kelly will want his side to start fast, having trailed early in their past two games.

"They're not the most enjoyable games to sit through when they're like that; they're a bit stressful!" Kelly remarked after playmaker Callum Grantham kicked a late field goal to secure the last-start victory after being down 12-0.

"But two points is two points. We'll look forward to (Manly)."

After beginning the season with a bang, the under-19 Sharks have stalled in the past fortnight, being beaten 34-18 by the Raiders most recently.

Australian Schoolboys halfback Riley Pollard remains sidelined due to head knock protocols, but the Dave Howlett-coached team doesn't lack any talent.

Up against a Manly side yet to get off the mark, Cronulla will be out to secure their second win of the season following their first-round demolition of Balmain.

Lisa Fiaola Cup

In search of their first victory, the under-17 Sharks girls are learning every week.

They went down 36-6 to the Central Coast Roosters in round three while Manly were held scoreless by Souths after opening their account the week prior.

It boils down to basics for coach Robbie Taylor, who sees the bigger picture.

"We've been working a lot around completing and ball security. It's just the same story – we don't have any (security) at the moment," he said.

"We've got to learn to control the ball. We've got to learn how to win, actually.

"Being the first year for these girls, under 17s … it is a learning process. We're working towards building them into Tarsha Gale players and NRLW players. But they've got to learn to lose and they've got to learn to win as well."

Tarsha Gale Cup

Tackling an undefeated Manly side (two wins, one bye), the under-19 Sharks women will look to return to winning form after their first loss of the season.

Despite being bested 16-10 by Canberra, Cronulla coach Isaac Michael remains confident that his side has what it takes to be a force in the competition.

They'll need to maintain their stout defence to hold off the Sea Eagles, who have broken the 50-point barrier against the Dragons and Rabbitohs.

"I can't fault the effort they put in. Sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way or the ball goes to ground – that's just footy," Michael said last week.

"But I think we're still in a good place as a squad."
