Pilot Medical Update - Braden Hamlin-Uele

Sharks prop Braden Hamlin-Uele is expected to spend up to a month on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury in his team’s impressive win over the Cowboys.

Scans revealed a grade two medial ligament strain for Hamlin-Uele, the injury occurring as a result of an awkward tackle from Cowboy forward Jeramiah Nanai late in Thursday night’s game.

Hamlin-Uele is expected to be out of action for around four weeks.

In some of the best form of his career, Hamlin-Uele ran for 159 metres from 15 carries, 55 of those run metres post contact in just 44 metres on the field against the Cowboys, with the Sharks to now explore the options in replacing the talented front rower.

Dale Finucane has completed his three-game suspension and will be available for the Sharks Magic Round clash with the Dolphins, with middle forwards Jack Williams and Tom Hazelton likely to see more game time.

Young forward Jesse Colquhoun, who broke a bone in his foot in the pre-season trials, has successfully returned to the field over the past few weeks with the Newtown Jets and will also come into contention for an NRL call up, as will former Roosters recruit Toku Hau Taphua, with the Sharks having good depth in their middle forwards.

In other Sharks injury news, Briton Nikora has no major issues and is expected to be on deck next weekend after suffering a contact injury to his knee which forced him from the field late in Thursday’s game, while Toby Rudolf continues his rehabilitation from toe surgery.
