World cup recap – Quarter Finals

New Zealand v Fiji Bati

Ronaldo Mulitalo & Briton Nikora have helped the Kiwis to a 24-18 win over Fiji Bati to advance to the semi-finals of the Rugby League World Cup.

The hard-fought, come-from-behind win against Fiji Bati saw New Zealand progress to next week’s semi-final at Leeds, where they will take on Australia for a place in the Final.

Trailing 12 – 0 following a strong start from Fiji Bati, off the back of some strong carries, Ronaldo Mulitalo stepped up and crossed for the Kiwis opener in the 25th minute.

Up 12-6 at the break, Fiji extended the advantage, but four minutes later Briton Nikora took a charging carry to the line and with the defenders failing to wrap up the ball, Briton dived over to score their second.

A late try to Jordan Ropana secured the win, and New Zealand will now go on to face Australia, who defeated Lebanon in the opening quarter-final, at Elland Road in Leeds on Saturday, November 12 at 4.45am AEDT.

Tonga v Samoa

In the final quarter final game, Toa Samoa are through to the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in history, after deafeating Tonga 20-18 Tonga in an intense quarter-final in Warrington.

We had three Sharks representing in this game with Sione Katoa representing Tonga and Royce Hunt along with new 2023 recruit Oregon Kaufusi lining up for Samoa.

In the 70th Minute Sione Katoa added another try to his tally however Tonga just fell short of taking the win. We are proud of all our Sharks representatives who all produced strong performances.

Eighty minutes now sit between Samoa and a maiden World Cup final appearance, with host nation England their confirmed opponent at the Emirates Stadium in London.

Good Luck to all our Sharks representatives in the Semi-Finals.
