The Jets flying start to 2022 continued last weekend with a comfortable win over the Wests Magpies, with Newtown to tackle the Rabbitohs at Accor Stadium on Friday as they look for a sixth consecutive victory.
One of only two undefeated teams through the opening five rounds, the Jets were dominant against the Magpies in a 40-10 triumph, with the challenge now to back up that win against Souths without a number of Sharks contracted players to have made an impact over previous weeks.
With the Sharks playing the Storm in Melbourne, under the NRL Apollo protocols they will be required to travel with an extended squad on Saturday, meaning a handful of players who otherwise would have been available, will be forced to miss the Jets game on Friday.
That being said, Newtown will still run out a strong squad to face the Rabbitohs, with Lochie Miller, a standout for the Jets so far this year in the NSW Cup, to play in the halves for a second week after starting the year at fullback.
Sharks youngster Kade Dykes and Jack Martin have been selected in the Jets line-up, with Dykes handing in an impressive senior debut for the Newtown side in his first game for the club last week.
The Jets v Souths game is scheduled as the curtain-raiser at Accor Stadium ahead of the NRL game between Rabbit and Bulldogs. Kick off is a 1.40pm.
