A win over the Warriors secured the Sharks a place in the 2020 NRL Finals series, now the challenge is to back up that performance and to make a statement against one of the competition hot shots in the Sydney Roosters.
The Sharks battled hard before getting the better of the Warriors late in their round 18 clash, tries to Toby Rudolf and Ronaldo Mulitalo setting up a win that put them six points clear of the chasing pack and therefore assuring them of a finals berth with only two games remaining.
However rather than looking ahead to the NRL Finals, the Sharks will be keen to show they have what it takes to compete with the leading teams, starting with their match against the Roosters on Saturday night.
Sharks coach John Morris has named the same 21-man squad which claimed the win over the Warriors, with Shaun Johnson to again lead the team after his successful captaincy debut in the match against his former club.
Connor Tracey has retained his place as Johnson’s halves partner, while Andrew Fifita is set to be better for last week’s run in what was his second game back from hamstring and finger injuries.
Wade Graham and Chad Townsend remain unavailable due to suspension, with Matt Moylan still sidelined with hamstring issues.
The match at the SCG will be the Sharks first at the venue since 1987.
Kick off to the Sharks v Roosters game is scheduled for 7.30pm on Saturday night.
