Townsend - Talk Of The Town - March 26

In his regular Talk of the Town podcasts, Chad Townsend speaks to his variety of guests on a wide range of rugby league, as well as non-football related topics.

Townsend’s Talk of the Town has included guests such as Shaun Johnson, Josh Morris, Jack Williams and Jayden Brailey, however in this week’s instalment, due to the social distancing protocols in place, the Sharks half back works through the issues facing the game from his own stand point and perspective.

With the season officially suspended and in what represents a drastic set of circumstances, not only for the Sharks and the NRL, but for the Australian community in general, Townsend speaks candidly about the personal measures him and his family are taking to stay safe and healthy, while offering his take on how to best cope with the rules in place.

“We don’t know when we are going to be back playing. It is a drastic set of circumstances,” Townsend said. “But I’ve always tried to focus on things I can control, which is my self-isolation, the rules implemented by the government and washing hands regularly.

“We need to respect those rules. It’s time for us to all do our bit and stick together. Follow the rules. I urge people to follow the instructions that have been put in place,” he added.

But the podcast wasn’t all about the dire situation the world finds itself in due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Townsend also talking footy and the personal regime he hopes will keep him fit while the sanctions are in place. He also has some fun in answering fan questions.

He responds to questions about how clubs are looking after the mental health of players, what the Sharks are doing to help grow and develop the mindset of the playing group and despite the two losses what his team can take out of the games that have been played so far in the 2020 season.

Townsend also opens up on why Jimmy Maloney is the biggest pest he has encountered in his time in the NRL.

“I roomed with him for two years and I can say it's an experience,” Townsend said.
