The NSWRL have released their 2020 draws for the Canterbury Cup and Jersey Flegg competitions, with a Sharks/Jets v Knights triple header scheduled for Netstrata Stadium in round three.
The 2020 draw in the Canterbury Cup sees the Newtown Jets, the Sharks partner club in the NSWRL competition, take on Souths at Metricon High Performance Centre (Redfern Oval), while the Jersey Flegg Sharks also open their season against the Rabbitohs at the same venue.
Those matches are scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 15.
For the Flegg Sharks the clash with Souths will see them given an immediate opportunity to extract some revenge on the team which knocked them out of the 2019 competition.
Souths, who went on to win the Flegg title, beating the Raiders 16-14 in the Grand Final, beat the Sharks 36-31 in overtime in week two of the finals, the Rabbitohs levelling the scores after a dubious penalty at the end of regulation before winning in extra time.
The first home game at Netstrata for the Flegg Sharks will be the following weekend against the Victorian Thunderbolts, planned as the curtain-raiser for the Sharks v Storm clash, while the Jets will have to wait until round five before playing at their traditional home ground of Henson Park when they host the North Sydney Bears.
The Jets have scheduled their highly successful “Beer, Food and Footy Festival” at Henson Park for round 19 on Saturday, July 25. They play the Warriors.
While details have yet to be finalised, a triple-header is also tabled for round three on March 28, with the Sharks NRL team, the Jets in the Canterbury Cup and the Sharks in the Jersey Flegg, all drawn to play the Newcastle Knights at Netstrata Stadium in Kogarah.
The NSWRL will release draws for its other competitions - including the addition the Kaiviti Silktails, the Fijian team who are the Sharks partner club in the Ron Massey Cup – in the New Year.
