Late Mail - NRL State Championship

At ANZ Stadium as the first lead in match before the NRL Grand Final between the Roosters and Raiders, the Newtown Jets, winners of the Canterbury Cup in spectacular fashion last weekend, face the Burleigh Bears in the State Championship Final.

The Jets won their way through to the big day courtesy of a last gasp victory over Mounties on Sunday, Will Kennedy scoring in over time on the back of some Billy Magnolias magic.

Today they play a Burleigh team who claimed the QRL title with a convincing win 28-10 over Wynumm Manly.

After a physical battle last weekend the Jets will this week field a team with a handful of changes to the side which took down the Wentworthville Magpies.

Missing will be five eighth and captain Jack Williams, who failed to recover from a calf strain, with experienced centre Aaron Gray, winger Tyrone Phillips and Siosifa Talakai, who has had a major impact when coming off the bench, also missing from the Newtown 17.

On a positive, the Jets have been able to bring exciting young centre Jackson Ferris into the team, long with former Kiwi international and Bulldogs back rower Greg Eastwood for what will be his final appearance before he retires from top level rugby league.

The match kicks off at 1.35pm, with the Jets team listed below.

1 Will Kennedy
2 Sione Katoa
19 Matt Evans
4 Ronaldo Mulitalo
18 Luke Polselli
13 Billy Magoulais
7 Braydon Trindall
8 Toby Rudolf
9 Blayke Brailey
10 Jaimin Jolliffe
11 Scott Sorensen
12 Jayson Buluya
25 Greg Eastwood
14 Teig Wilton
15 Jackson Ferris
21 Wes Lolo
23 Daniel Vasquez
