Flegg Sharks score trial match win

In their final trial match before the start of the 2018 season, the Jersey Flegg Sharks have scored a convincing 24-10 win over the Wests Tigers in a match played at Campbelltown Stadium.

The under-20 Sharks raced away to 24-point half time lead and went on with the job in the second stanza.

The Sharks were on top early and were able to capitalise on their dominance, running in five unanswered tries in the first half.

Braden Trindall and Blake Manowski managed to cross on the Sharks attacking right, while on the other side of the field the centre-wing combination of Isaac Lumelume and Bronson Xerri was causing even more problems for the Wests Tigers defence.

Xerri would score twice, while laying on another for Lumelume, as the Sharks took a 24-0 lead int the half time break.

With coach Dave Howlett changing up his line up in giving all players in his game day squad an opportunity to impress, the second half was somewhat less inspiring, as the Tigers displayed a good deal of pride in making a contest of the second 35-minute period.

The Tigers would score twice and the Sharks were kept scoreless with the final score 24-10 in favour of the visiting team a reasonable indication of the difference between the two teams.

With a narrow loss at home to Manly and an encouraging victory over the Wests Tigers the Flegg Sharks head into their season-opener with a good level of confidence.

The Sharks play the Sydney Roosters at Southern Cross Group Stadium on March 10 in round one of the Jersey Flegg competition, that match kicking off at 3.30pm.
