Moylan happy to leave fullback to Val

After settling into his new club following his controversial exit from the Penrith Panthers, Matt Moylan is relishing his fresh start at the Cronulla Sharks.

Moylan was open minded about playing five-eighth or fullback when he signed with the Sharks last month but in light of Valentine Holmes's record-breaking form with the Kangaroos at the World Cup, the former Panther is likely to end up in the black, white and blue No.6 jersey alongside Chad Townsend in the halves.

"I enjoyed my time at Penrith and I'm very privileged to have started my career out there and enjoyed my time there, but moved on now to Cronulla and hopefully I can kick on and play some really good footy out here," he told NRL.com.

The versatile 26-year-old played one Test at fullback for Australia last year but has also played at five-eighth in the State of Origin arena for NSW.

"I've been doing a bit at both, but not too sure, we've got Val that can play fullback as well, so just see how the combinations work and whatever suits best for the team," he said.

Sharks veteran Luke Lewis, who like Moylan enjoyed a successful start to his NRL career at Penrith before switching to the Sutherland Shire, is thrilled to see there's no shortage for choice at the club following the departures of James Maloney to Penrith and Jack Bird to the Brisbane Broncos.

Cronulla have also snared Josh Dugan from the St George Illawarra Dragons and Aaron Gray from the South Sydney Rabbitohs to boost their back line in 2018.

"To have that mixture in the group … is definitely a bonus for us," Lewis said.

"Watching the World Cup and seeing what Val does on the wing is pretty special - 11 tries in two games. I'm so glad I'm not the coach."
