Rugby League journalist David Riccio penned the forward and provided a select few words to support the photographs, but as he explains; “it’s photographers who boast an incredible skill and artistry to transport our hearts and minds to a place, a moment, or an entire 2016 NRL season.”
That incredible NRL season about which Riccio speaks, the same one Grant Trouville and his team of NRL photographers captured with their cameras, saw the Sharks put to bed all the slurs about never having won a premiership, about porch lights being left on and the expectation their own fans put on each and every Cronulla team, each and every year.
For Trouville, NRL Lead Photographer, friend to numerous NRL players, local Sutherland Shire resident and Sharks tragic, PREMIERS, a pictorial account of the 2016 season, was a work of passion.
Passion from Trouville to capture the emotion and excitement of an incredible year, passion from the players who climbed the mountain and passion from the supporters who lived every moment.
As you would expect the iconic image of Gallen and Ettingshausen, embracing in tears following the full time siren is a centrepiece, one of literally thousands of photos, some which featured heavily in news articles and on websites, others behind the scenes shots that have yet to seen by the general public.
Andrew Fifita crashing over to turn the dream into a potential reality, incredible crowd shots showing the remarkable support the team experienced in their march through to the big day, as well as action from the entire season, culminating in the Grand Final triumph.
PREMIERS is a book that will help us never forget a season of great excitement and achievement delivered through images that captured all the key moments.
Riccio eloquently puts it, PREMIERS represents;
“Imagery and memories of a magical season of rugby league, which can never be erased.
“This book is more than just a collection of captivating photographs, it's a reference point and historic album of a year Sharks fans can never forget.
“Every photo – some of which have never been published publicly is a chapter in one of Australian sport’s greatest stories.
“This body of work is, quite literally, a diary of a dream.”
