Understandably the clash of the table-topping Sharks and the defending premiers the Cowboys attracted plenty of media attention both in the lead up and following the game.

The Sharks won a thriller on the back of an outstanding defensive effort and a spectacular Valentine Holmes try, beating the Cowboys 13-10 to go six points clear of the 2015 NRL champions on the current ladder.

As a consequence of their 10 wins in a row and their impressive first half of the 2016 season, plenty is also being written and said about the Sharks prospects in 2016.

The Australian, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily Telegraph all published feature articles talking up the Sharks chances of breaking their 49-year premiership drought.

Wade Graham’s selection in the NSW Origin team for game two also received extensive media attention, as did his subsequent match review panel charge and his one game suspension, a ban which shattered his Origin dream and ruled him out of next Wednesday’s match.

Paul Gallen is never far from the news around Origin time, while Sharks Coach Shane Flanagan found time to praise the efforts of his inspirational skipper, while in other news in-form back rower Jayson Bukuya was featured by and Cronulla club immortal Andrew Ettingshausen touch on a couple of sensitive subjects in a revealing interview on the Sterlo show.

See what they’re saying, what they’re writing, in Sharks in the News for Friday, June 17.
