Description –

Sitting in second place ahead of a blockbuster match-up against traditional rivals the Manly Sea Eagles on Saturday night, the first 10 rounds of the 2016 season have expectations high amongst both the Sharks NRL team and the Members and fans who support them.

The Sharks have been thrilling the crowds, with athletic and exciting outside backs capitalising on the outstanding work of the forwards, their eighth win in 10 matches last Sunday afternoon a record-equalling 62-0 triumph against the Newcastle Knights.

The 62-point winning margin equalled the record set by the 2005 Sharks when they smashed the Sea Eagles 68-6, while easily bettering their largest victories in matches played away from home.

But as good as equalling a long-standing mark was, the Sharks have broken another record in 2016, one which has surpassed prior numbers.

A recent count of Sharks membership figures has revealed in excess of 13,000 fans have committed to the cause as Sharks Members in 2016, when considering the previous-best, achieved in 2015, was 10,600, it represents a massive increase on what has gone before.

Sharks skipper Paul Gallen was hardly surprised when told about the membership record, with him and his team feeling the passion every week they run out on Southern Cross Group Stadium.

“Obviously I wasn’t across exactly how many Members we had on board but to hear it has gone past 13,000 is a great achievement,” Gallen said. “The crowds have been excellent at our home games this year, not only in the numbers but in the noise they make and support they’ve been giving us.

“13,000 is great, but with the team going as well as it is, why stop there. If you’re a fan and not yet a member jump on and support us for what should be an exciting ride this season.”

The revelation of the new membership record coincides this week with the dedicated Sharks Members round for 2016, with celebrations planned for game day, not the least of which will see the NRL team run out in specially-designed member’s jersey.

The Members jersey features the names of those 2016 members to sign on prior to the early-season production cut-off date. It is in stock and available for purchase both at the game and from the Sharks Store.

Also planned for game day is a Members watch giveaway, while the players will run out through a banner which displays photos taken of Sharks members at Southern Cross Group Stadium from previous matches played this season.

And in another bonus for Sharks fans, Members can take advantage of a Uber transport special offer, available to both new and existing Uber clients. See below for more details but it could just be the most convenient way to get to and from Southern Cross Group Stadium on Saturday night.

Sharks memberships are also still available, with the club targeting 15,000 for 2016.

Become a Sharks Flexi 3 or Flexi 6 member and save $ on gate prices for the remainder of 2017, or show your support with a Shark Net Membership for only $50.00.
