Competition - NRL Premiership Round. Round - Round 10. Teams - Newcastle Knights v Cronulla Sharks. Date - 15th of May 2016. Venue - Hunter Stadium, Broadmeadow NSW. Photographer - Paul Barkley.

Sharks and NSW Captain Paul Gallen this morning took to the Big Sports Breakfast to have his say on recent claims made by Blues great Peter Sterling, that ‘Gal’ should be overlooked for Origin duties this season.

Man of the Match in the recent Trans-Tasman test between the Kangaroos and the Kiwis, Gallen – Blues captain since 2011 – said his recent form is anything but that of a player who shouldn’t hold his place in Coach Laurie Daley’s side.

“This is the time of the year when everyone comes out and picks their (Origin) sides … I’m a bit dumbfounded by it to be honest,” Gallen said.

“I just don’t know how me not being in that side is justified.”

Gallen also spoke of the Sharks' big win over the Knights last weekend, and how the side is preparing to overturn a poor record against the Sea Eagles.

Listen to the full interview with Gallen, with audio courtesy of Sky Sports Radio (1017 AM), now playing.
