It has been revealed that the Newtown Jets have drawn the Canterbury Bulldogs in round one of the 2016 NSW Cup after the draw for the upcoming season was announced yesterday.

The Jets, the Sharks partner club in the NSW Cup competition, enjoyed limited success in 2015 in missing the finals series but with their off-season recruitment, coupled with a strong roster in the Cronulla top 30 players, can expect a better result in the season ahead.

As yet a kick off time for the Bulldogs match has yet to be decided, however the game will be played at Belmore Sports Ground.

If they are to mount a challenge in the NSW Cup in 2016 the Jets will have to start the season well in matches played in ‘enemy’ territory, with their opening four games of the season to played away from home.

The first game at the Jets traditional home ground at Henson Park is scheduled for round five against the Wests Tigers on the weekend of April 2-3. A day and kick-off time for this match has yet to be determined.

The 2016 NSW Cup competition kicks-off on the weekend of 5-6 March with Premiers Newcastle to begin their title defence against North Sydney.

Other key dates on this year's NSW Cup calendar included the official Country Round (Rd 9), with matches due to be played across regional NSW and specifically across the Illawarra; Round 5 features the rivalry match-up of Newtown against the Wests Tigers, while the Jets Reunion Day will be in Round 24 when they play North Sydney.

The NSW Cup Grand Final will be played on September 25, while the National Championship game, matching the winners of the NSW Cup and the Queensland Cup, will be a part of the NRL Grand Final day on October 2.

Fox Sports will again broadcast each round's blue-ribbon clash live and exclusive in high definition throughout the entire regular season and finals series.
