A determined 26-22 win over Souths in abysmal conditions on Monday night has the NYC Sharks ready to challenge the third-placed Penrith Panthers in their round eight match at Pepper Stadium on Sunday.

The young Sharks fell behind the Rabbits while running into a gale force wind in the second half last night, however an 80-metre try by strapping winger Semesi Vea gave them a lead they would defend grimly until the final siren sounded.

It was the second win of the season by the Sharks, while their opponents this weekend the Panthers are five from seven and positioned nicely towards the top of the competition ladder. They will host the Sharks on Sunday on the back of three wins in a row.

The match this weekend is scheduled for an 11.45am kick-off at Pepper Stadium.
