Wright at home at NRLW Season Launch

Cronulla’s star-studded NRLW side took to the stage to talk all things pre-season, the challenge of getting back to finals, and the excitement of kicking off the season at Ocean Protect Stadium next Thursday night.

Retired Sharks champion and now Channel 9 commentator, Allana Ferguson, hosted the event and introduced the team to fans, sponsors and club officials in attendance.

Australian singer-songwriter Dylan Wright also popped by to sing the Cronulla NRLW side into the season.

A surreal moment for the lifelong fan and 2024 Australian Idol winner.

“I love this club so much. I grew up watching every game, and I said it on stage, I would go to Shark Park and watch Allana (Ferguson) play, so it was really cool to get introduced by her, and it’s just always great to come back to this club and do what I can to help, Wright said.

“I’ve got 2 young daughters, 6 and 3, and they love women’s sport. We always tackle watching the games. They look up to these women so much, and they don’t want to watch the men play; they want to watch the women play.”

The homegrown talent performed his latest single, ‘Escape to the Other Side.’

Wright’s EP called ‘Crossroads’ comes out on July 10, and he said the last song on the EP has a sneaky Sharks reference.

“I was lucky enough to get into the sheds with the men last year, and they had a Tom Petty song playing, so I kind of referenced that, and the last few lines say ‘up up’ in it, so that’s my ode to the Sharks.

The Cronulla NRLW side is hoping to sing a bit of ‘up up’ next Thursday night too.

Rugby 7s signing Madison Ashby has hit the ground running, gelling quickly with the group.

“Tony (Herman) is very big on connection, and as soon as I walked in, everyone was so warm and welcoming. Training has been awesome. Everyone has gotten around me, Ashby said.

“We’re up against Newcastle at home next Thursday, which is the team I played against in my last Tarsha Gale game for the Sharks back in 2018, so it’s a bit of a full circle moment, and I can’t wait to get back out there.”
