No shortcuts!!
There were certainly no shortcuts taken at a physical and exacting training session today as the NRL squad took part in what was the third field session of their post-Christmas pre-season training.

The intensity was high as Coach Shane Flanagan, aided by assistants James Shepherd and Steve Price, along with High Performance Manager Andrew Gray, put the team through their paces under the hot summer sun on the back fields at Remondis Stadium.

As described by Flanagan it was perhaps the best field session so far as preparations ramp up for the upcoming Auckland Nines and trial matches that follow.

A Sharks website camera was on hand to capture some of the action, while Flanagan gave his first interview on Sharks TV for 2015.

Dykes new kicking coach
Local junior and former star playmaker Adam Dykes will work with the Sharks in 2015 as field kicking coach.

Dykes, who played 184 NRL games for the Sharks and 237 in total for the Sharks, Hull FC (UK) and the Parramatta Eels, was also a part of the clubs premiership winning Presidents Cup (Under 23’s) team in 1994.

A local junior from the De La Salle club who now has children playing in our Cronulla Sutherland junior league, Dykes begins with the Sharks on Monday and is expected to be at a number of training sessions each week.

“His experience, knowledge and expertise in our game, especially the art of kicking, will be of enormous benefit for individuals as well as the team this season,” head coach Shane Flanagan said.

Stay tuned to the website, where Sharks TV will attempt to catch up with Dykes and chat to him about what he would like to accomplish with the teams kickers in the upcoming season.

Stanley ties the knot
Sharks new recruit Kyle Stanley tied the knot last week when he married his long time sweetheart Niketa at a ceremony attended by family and many of former and current NRL colleagues.

Fellow Sharks newcomer Gerard Beale was a member of the wedding party, with Kyle’s brother Chase, set to play his second season at the Bulldogs in 2015, also one of his groomsmen.

The Sharks pass on their best to Kyle and Niketa and wish them a long, happy, healthy and prosperous life together.

Calling business owners and employers - Work opportunities for young Sharks
The Sharks are calling on sponsors, members, fans or anybody who can assist in potentially providing employment opportunities for their young up and coming players.

Businesses large or small work, employers or anyone with knowledge of workplace opportunities can help our young players find suitable employment to support themselves whilst chasing their NRL dream.

Under the rules of the NYC, all players must be employed or be taking part in full time study to be eligible to play in the Holden Cup competition. NYC training times are scheduled around player work or study commitments to minimise any inconvenience to the players or to their employers.

The employment opportunities could include fulltime work, casual or part time work, apprenticeships and traineeships or even simply involve work experience

If you, or someone you know, is a local business or business owner and think you may be able to assist, the Sharks encourage you to contact the clubs Welfare and Education Manager Damien White.

These are quality young men, committed to their rugby league and to the Sharks but mindful of accessing experience in the workforce and putting steps in place to ensure successful careers post football.

Contact Damien White on 9527 8271 or via email at [email protected] to discuss or to find out more.
