The Women's Premiership Sharks are planning a late-season surge into the top 4 ahead of their round 9 clash with Wentworthville.

The 9th-placed Sharks are coming off a 20-0 victory over St George, and with 3 games remaining in the season, there's still hope the reigning premiers can give it another shake.

It was nil-all at half-time in the contest, until Cronulla's second-greatest NRLW try-scorer, Cassie Staples, got her side on the board, and from fullback she proved instrumental in the match.

The Sharks' young halves Julliana Kolio and Ella Ropata also combined well, and both crossed for the crucial second and third tries of the match.

Fijian international Nanise Vakacavu finished the game off; she crashed over with minutes remaining to seal the deal.

Up against the 11th-placed Wentworthville Magpies this weekend, Cronulla is on 7 points from its 8 games, but only 3 points outside of the Women's Premiership top 4.

Meaning the black, white and blue will need to win their final 3 games to give themselves a chance at finals.

That all starts on Saturday at Henson Park, when the Sharks take on the Magpies at 1pm in a doubleheader with the Newtown Jets.
