NRLW Match Preview: Round 6 v Titans

The Sharks face the third-placed Gold Coast Titans at home tomorrow, hoping to snatch just their second win of the season, and are led by the motivation of Indigenous Round and two NRLW debutants, Koffi Brookfield and Milla Elaro.

Aged 19 and 21, the hooker and winger are both promising young players. Brookfield won the club's Women's Premiership player of the year award last season, and Elaro is an exciting prospect who transitioned from Rugby 7s to league this year.

Queensland and Cronulla halfback Chantay Kiria-Ratu is out with an ankle sprain, which sees Madison Ashby step into the halves alongside Georgia Hannaway.

Kiria-Ratu joins an extensive Cronulla casualty ward but is due back in rounds 7 to 8.

Playing for their injured sisters and celebrating Indigenous Round at Ocean Protect Stadium, Cronulla are hoping to deliver a strong performance for their fans as they hit the halfway mark of the season, with some tough opponents still to face.

Following a tough loss to the Tigers at Magic Round, NRLW Coach Tony Herman is still confident that his team's connection and skill will soon show in their game.

“We’ve put ourselves in this position, and it’s up to all of us to fight our way out; so, we’ll fight our way out,” Herman said.

Having only lost one game in round one, the high-flying Titans are now aiming for their fifth straight win, so Saturday's match will be a huge boost for Cronulla if they can grab the two points.

In their past two meetings, the Sharks have been able to grab the win on both occasions, victors 12-8 in 2025 and 22-6 in 2024, but the Titans have added former Rugby 7s star Tegan Levi this season, and the number 6 has been hard to stop so far.

Reflecting on what this round means to the community, the Sharks are proud to be the only NRL club that runs a Deadly Choices Program.

The initiative involves working with First Nations students in the community and educating them about healthy lifestyles. Cronulla's NRLW fullback Jada Taylor runs the program and gives back to Indigenous youth in the community.

“This week’s going to be really special for me. This year we decided that we really wanted to make it (the jersey) about where we are; this area is so important because it represents not only the Indigenous people here, but everyone here,” Taylor said.

“I just can’t wait to run out; the thing that makes me most proud about this week, obviously I'm proud to represent my culture, … but I'm more proud that the girls who aren’t indigenous really want to get around it… it makes me emotional.”

This afternoon the NRLW team will be a part of a boots painting presentation where all players can get custom designs on their game boots.

On gameday, the ‘Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation Dance Group’ will perform a traditional dance that reflects the local area and culture, and delivering the match ball is Kurranulla Director and Elder in Residence, Aunty Deanna Schrieber.

Gates open at 2:45pm tomorrow for a 3:15pm kick-off at Ocean Protect Stadium.
