In the final washup the result was somewhat convincing for one, less so but still a victory for the other, with the Jersey Flegg Sharks and Newtown Jets in the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup both recording round 22 victories.

The under 21 Sharks weathered an early storm against Souths before running away to win 46-18, while the Jets scored late to record a 14-8 win over the Rabbitohs to also keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the upcoming Finals series.

The two Sharks pathways teams are back in action on Saturday for matches against St George Illawarra.

It was a battle early, with the Cronulla side trailing 12-0 during the first half, before the Jersey Flegg Sharks kicked into gear and produced a dominant second half in a 46-18 win over Souths last Sunday.

It was an important win by a Sharks team sitting fourth, just one point and one position on the ladder ahead of the Rabbitohs, with the competition finals less than a month away.

This weekend the challenge steps up another notch when the Sharks face the ladder leading Dragons in a match to be played at Collegians Sporting Complex in Wollongong.

The two teams have met once previously this year, and it was the Sharks producing arguably their best win of the season, a 42-18 win in a match played at Ocean Protect Stadium back in round 14.

It may not have been the prettiest but in the context of their season perhaps the most important, with the Newtown Jets crossing for a late try to beat Souths in their round 22 match up last Saturday.

As a result of the 14-8 victory the Jets jumped the Rabbitohs and moved to fourth on the competition table, with more wins needed through the closing rounds should they hope to earn one of the five Finals series berths.

This week the Jets play a Dragons team which has struggled at times in sitting towards the bottom of the ladder, but who are nonetheless a dangerous opponent when at their best.

The Jets and Dragons have met once in 2026, the Newtown side taking the points after a 34-22 win.
