'We fear no one': Taylor backs Sharks to dump the slump

Cronulla Sharks intend rallying around each other to rise above the form slump that has handed the club their worst start to a NRLW season since joining the competition in 2023.

From the team that made the 2024 grand final and the preliminary final in 2025 they face a fourth loss in a row. 

It all starts with the high-flying Raiders at Canberra’s GIO Stadium in Round 4.

“It’s not ideal but when your backs are against the wall, there’s only one way to go,” Sharks fullback Jada Taylor told NRL.com. 

“I watched the Raiders game (v Roosters) and they are playing well. 

“But we don’t fear anyone – we’ve spoken about that.  

“The footy we play can win games and I have full faith in our coach Tony Herman to get us through these next weeks.  

“It’s us as a playing group that need to lift and be better – no-one else to point the finger at.” 

An 18-4 loss to the Knights was followed by 22-16 to premiers the Broncos, but then 24-18 to the Bulldogs who jumped out to a 14-0 lead. 

“It was embarrassing how we dished up that performance (11 errors) coming off the back of a good performance against the Broncos,” Taylor said. 

“I’m not going to sugar-coast it. It was disappointing, more so because I love the brand of footy that we play. 

“So I’m equally embarrassed for the footy staff and coaches... there’s not much more they could have done – they’re not on the field.” 

Taylor made some incisive runs in her game-high 158 metres, two offloads, six tackle busts and a line break. 

She says the solution is reaffirming the players’ bond and addressing the low points of the Bulldogs game. 

“We just have to become tighter and get through this,” Taylor said.  

“I already feel like we’re so connected so it’s hard to put my finger on what it is at the moment. 

“But we are going error for error, which isn’t us. When we get back into our cycle we complete high. 

“Our priority is to eliminate those silly errors which shouldn’t be happening like uncontested dropping the ball. 

“But the good thing about rugby league is that it’s a team sport and we don’t go through this alone. We help each other.”
