Exciting young forward Felix Fa'atili extends

Exciting young forward Felix Fa'atili has signed a contract extension with the Sharks, one that will see him remain at the Cronulla club for a further two seasons.

The extension for Fa'atili, who joined the Sharks in 2023 as a member of the under-19 SG Ball squad and has progressed to become a part of the fulltime NRL training group, is for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

“I’m excited and grateful to have this opportunity to extend my time here at the Sharks,” Fa'atili said. “I’m really looking forward to the rest of this year and then to the next two seasons.”

“I’ve learnt so much already from the senior players, from Fitzy and the NRL staff, as well as from all the coaches I’ve had at the Sharks along the way and I’m hoping I can continue to improve and to be good enough to play in the NRL,” he added.

Sharks GM of Football Darren Mooney, who along with Male Pathway & Junior Recruitment Manager Glenn Brailey was responsible for bringing Fa'atili to the Cronulla club, sees plenty of upside in the young front rower and is excited about what he might be able to produce in the years ahead.

“Felix has adapted well to the increased demands of senior football in the NSW Cup after progressing through our pathway, and we see significant upside in his continued development,” Mooney said.

“He possesses strong natural attributes, particularly his footwork and leg speed, which give him genuine attacking impact. With continued hard work and progression, we’re confident he has the potential to step up to the NRL in the future.”

Originally from Christchurch in New Zealand and the Hornby Panthers club, Fa'atili was recruited by the Broncos, attended Wavell High School and played for Brisbane’s feeder club Wynnum Manly.

Spotted by the Sharks while playing in Brisbane, Fa'atili arrived in the Shire in 2023, first representing the Sharks in the SG Ball competition, before being promoted to the under-21 Jersey Flegg squad later that year.

A hard-running front rower with an ability to find the try line, Fa'atili would go on to play 25 Flegg games in 2024, scoring 10 tries, before making another 21 Flegg appearances in 2025, where he again crossed the stripe on 10 occasions.

As a part of his development and progression, Fa'atili played one game for Newtown in the NSW Cup in 2024, another five matches in 2025, to now where is a regular member of the Jets team in 2026.

The Jets, with Fa’atili named to start in the front row, travel to New Zealand this weekend to take on the Warriors in the NSW Cup.
