Will signs on for 2027

The Sharks have extended the contract of Will Kennedy, with the talented fullback committing to the club for the 2027 season.

A mainstay for the Sharks at the back, Kennedy made his NRL debut in 2019, before becoming a regular fixture in the club’s number one jersey from 2020 onwards.

Kennedy has gone on to play 145 games in the NRL for the Cronulla club and looks forward to continuing to contribute to the success of the Sharks for the remainder of this year and into the 2027 season.

“I’m very pleased to be staying here for another year. I started here in the SG Ball, I’ve come through the ranks, been lucky to play so many games and this club is a special part of me,” Kennedy said.

“I had a big preseason, my hard work and what I’ve put into the games has paid off, I’m happy with what the club has given me, and I want to repat them for that.”

As for what’s next and Kennedy’s immediate goals.

“I want to keep playing consistent footy and the big goal is to win a comp. I want to do that for the club and the people and players here.”

Sharks General Manager of Football Darren Mooney was confident Kennedy would continue to deliver a consistently high level of performance both this year and into the 2027 season

“Will is one of our most consistent performers week in, week out. He has been an integral part of our success over recent seasons, and we expect him to continue to play an important role for us moving forward,” Mooney said.

“Will’s character, professionalism and dedication to our club is unwavering and we very pleased he has agreed to extend his time with us until at least the end of 2027”

Originally from Bathurst, then a member of Sharks pathways teams, Kennedy played in the premiership winning SG Ball squad of 2015, graduated to the NYC under-20’s competition, before going on to play a leading role in the NSW Cup and National Club Championship victories of the Newtown Jets in 2019.

Kennedy would first play in the top grade in round six of the 2019 season in a match against the Penrith Panthers and in the years since his debut has played 145 NRL games, scoring 56 tries.

He was the Porter-Gallen Medal winner as the Sharks best player in 2021 and represented the Indigenous All Stars in 2022, while Kennedy led the Dally M Medal voting through the first half of the 2025 season, a year in which he displayed his resilience and durability by playing all 27 of the Sharks games.
