Two teams coming off disappointing last start losses, face off in the first match of the NRL's Magic Round weekend when the Sharks play the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
The Sharks, after going down to Souths last Saturday, come up against a Bulldogs side which was thumped 44-12 by the Dolphins at their most recent outing.
Now sitting two points outside the top eight, a win by the Sharks will be crucial as they look to keep in touch with the leading teams as the season approaches the halfway point.
Helping the Sharks cause will be the inclusion of Ronaldo Mulitalo and Jesse Ramien, with the pair returning from long term injury issues.
Mulitalo will play his first game of the 2026 season having been sidelined since rupturing his ACL late last year playing for New Zealand, while Ramien has been out of action with a knee injury suffered in his team's round five match against the Warriors.
While the two returning players will be a bonus for the Cronulla team, making the task somewhat more difficult will be the omission of both co-captains in Blayke Brailey and Cam McInnes.
Brailey failed his head injury assessment late in the game against Souths and is unavailable for the Bulldogs clash, ending his 139 consecutive games played streak as he undergoes the enforced 11-day concussion standdown protocol.
In Brailey's place comes the experienced Jayden Berrell, who has been in consistently good form for the Newtown Jets and will relish his opportunity in the top grade.
McInnes will miss Friday's match with an ankle issue.
The Sharks and Bulldogs match is scheduled to get underway at 6.00pm on Friday night.
