A trip to Canberra yielded a win for the Newtown Jets and a loss for the Jersey Flegg Sharks against the Raiders on Sunday.

Locked at 20-all after 56 minutes, it appeared a grandstand finish was in the works. Unfortunately for the Sharks, the Raiders clicked into overdrive and piled on four tries in quick succession to run away with the result. Cronulla second-rower Yuri Hromrow played a leading hand with two tries.

A blazing start helped earn Newtown their second win of the season as the Jets outlasted the fast-finishing Raiders in enemy territory. The Blue Bags had the game in their keeping when playmaker Taj Ford scored a converted try to make it 34-14 after 67 minutes, but Canberra stormed back with two late tries. In his first Newtown appearance for the year after a knee injury, Sharks NRL squad member Mawene Hiroti scored a try and kicked five goals at fullback.
