Cronulla's Jersey Flegg team opened their account with a gritty win over the Storm on Saturday, however the script was flipped in the NSW Cup as the Newtown Jets came up short against Melbourne.
After a tight Round 1 loss to the Panthers, the Under 21 Sharks scored five tries to three in an encouraging performance at Ocean Protect Stadium.
South of the border at Seabrook Reserve, the Jets were edged out in a hard-fought encounter which was put to bed by a last-minute Melbourne try.

Sharks 22 (Adrian Sandy three, Richard Whalebone, Pharrell Gray tries; Marc Tannous one goal) def Storm 12
Fullback Adrian Sandy set the field alight with a dazzling hat-trick as the young Sharks staved off the Storm to claim their first victory of the season. The score was only 4-0 in Cronulla's favour at half-time, but they quickly seized control to put a 12-point gap on their opponents after 58 minutes. Melbourne struck twice in the final 10 minutes, but the smooth-moving Sandy helped ensure a Sharks win.

Jets 12 (Cathane Hill, Kristian Dixon tries; Riley Pollard two goals) def by Storm 20
They didn't lead at any stage, but Newtown pushed the Storm all the way in a tight contest in Melbourne. The Jets set up a grandstand finish when Kristian Dixon crossed and Riley Pollard converted to make it 14-12 after 63 minutes. But Melbourne had the final say, a try to Angus Hinchey in the 79th minute extinguishing Newtown's flame despite a gutsy effort without gun halfback Niwhai Puru, who didn't take his place due to a rolled ankle.
