Junior Representative Results | Round 1

The Sharks travelled to Maitland to face the Newcastle Knights in Round 1 of the NSWRL Junior Representative competitions on Sunday, returning with one win from four hard-fought games.

Harold Matthews Cup

Sharks 32 (Jayden Best two tries, Koa Cooper two tries, Chad Kamara try, Charlie Sasse try; Koa Cooper four goals) def by Knights 34

MATCH CENTRE

Down 18-12 at half-time, Cronulla never gave up in a see-sawing affair but were ultimately pipped by Newcastle on account of their goal-kicking. Incredibly, the Sharks scored a converted try to take the lead with a minute remaining, only for the Knights to return serve in the dying moments and steal a stunning victory.

SG Ball Cup

Sharks 18 (Jamie Curran, Callum Grantham, Thomas Beattie tries; Callum Grantham three goals) def by Knights 24 

MATCH CENTRE

After leading midway through the first half, the Sharks went into the sheds trailing 16-12. They closed the gap to 20-18 when winger Thomas Beattie scored heading into the final 10 minutes, but Newcastle quickly hit back to seal the result.

Lisa Fiaola Cup

Sharks 6 (Desirae Ah-Loo try; Tahli Weigand goal) def by Knights 24

MATCH CENTRE

It was a tough start for Cronulla's Under 17 girls, who found themselves down 20-0 against a red-hot Knights side at the break. They kept trying, however, and cracked Newcastle's defence to the score the final try of the game.

Tarsha Gale Cup

Sharks 16 (Manawanui James, Milla Caine, Julliana Kolio tries; Ella Ropata two goals) def Knights 12

MATCH CENTRE

A dominant first-half performance gave the spirited Sharks a 12-0 advantage before Newcastle hit back in the 32nd minute. But Cronulla weren't to be denied, crossing again in the 44th minute to secure two competition points.
