Colquhoun shows Sharks loyalty with four-year extension

The Sharks are pleased to announce the retention of fast-rising forward Jesse Colquhoun on a four-year extension until the end of 2030.

The 24-year-old is poised to become the cornerstone of the club's forward pack, joining star hooker Blayke Brailey as the only Cronulla players currently signed through to the turn of the decade.

While he was courted heavily by several rival clubs – such is the promise he's shown in 29 NRL games – Colquhoun is determined to repay the Sharks for their faith in supporting him through a series of frustrating injuries.

"I'm extremely grateful I get to stay here for the next four years," Colquhoun said.

"The Sharks' loyalty towards me in those tough times definitely hasn't gone unnoticed and that's why I'm glad to call this place home.

"It gives me a lot of confidence knowing they're signing me on a long-term deal. Hopefully, I can return the favour by playing good, consistent footy.

"At the end of the day, we want to win a comp and that's why I want to stay. If we can deliver on that promise, I'd be really happy."

Darren Mooney, Sharks General Manager Football, added: "Jesse's resilience, work ethic and talent have made him one of the most promising young forwards in the game.

"It's no secret that Jesse had plenty of teams chasing him, but it says a lot about his character and the culture at our club that he's recommitted on a long-term deal.

"While he's still developing, we see Jesse as someone who can lead our forward pack long into the future. We're excited to watch him fulfil his potential."

Hailing from Wollongong, Colquhoun arrived at Cronulla in search of opportunity as an SG Ball triallist. After coming through the lower grades, he earned his NRL debut against the Cowboys in Round 18, 2022.

The back-rower tallied four games that season but was restricted to just seven matches over the next two years due to injury.

In a case of shocking luck, Colquhoun fractured his foot during pre-season trials in consecutive years before rupturing his ACL midway through 2024.

The Collegians junior worked his way back into first grade in Round 9 last year and made every post a winner, finishing 2025 as the team's starting lock in the absence of captain Cam McInnes and playing a key role in the run to the preliminary finals.

Colquhoun and his teammates are now hard at work ahead of their opening Pre-Season Challenge match against the Eels at Henson Park on Sunday, February 15.
