Young Sharks to trial against Eels

Cronulla's Harold Matthews and SG Ball squads will conclude their pre-Christmas training blocks with trial matches against the Parramatta Eels at Kellyville Oval on Saturday evening.

The hit-outs will give Harold Matthews (Under 17) coach Brad Kelly and SG Ball (U19) mentor Chad Townsend their first look at the teams under game conditions.

Both sides are expected to cycle through extended squads, as is customary at this time of year as coaches prepare to finalise their playing stocks.

The young Sharks are slated to play further trial matches against Western Suburbs and Canterbury in January. Their season officially kicks off on Sunday, February 8 with Round 1 matches against the Knights in Maitland.

Cronulla's female Junior Representative teams had encouraging first trials against the Eels last weekend, with the Isaac Michael-coached Lisa Fiaola (Under 17) side going down 24-12 and Andrew Fifita's Tarsha Gale (U19) outfit losing 12-4.

The Lisa Fiaola and Tarsha Gale teams will also commence the season proper on the road against the Knights, taking the field before their male counterparts.
