Sharks celebrate International Day of People with Disability

The Sharks celebrated the International Day of People with Disability on Wednesday with a Mega Jaws footy clinic that brought together 60 participants from local support-work organisations.

Under the watchful eye of NRLW superstar and Sharks Equal Access Program Lead Emma Verran, attendees engaged in tackling drills, sharpened their running and passing abilities and danced with the Mermaids at the Sharks Academy.

NRL training squad members Riley Pollard, Felix Faatili, Nikora Williams and Brad Fearnley also lent a hand alongside several Junior Representative players.

Sutherland Shire organisations including Civic Disability, St George & Sutherland Community College, Project Epic and All Care Speech and Disability were represented in a heart-warming display of inclusion and community spirit.

Observed by the United Nations on December 3 each year, the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

The 2025 IDPwD theme was fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress – a goal Verran and the Sharks strive to reach through a suite of year-round disability programs which make rugby league accessible for all.

"It was so incredibly special to see the participants enjoying the clinic and the engagement between the Sharks players and participants," Verran said.

"There are so many special relationships which have grown over the past couple of years and it is amazing to see these relationships continue to grow.

"It's important as a club to hold these events and celebrate IDPwD to be inclusive and see real change as we work toward social progress."
