Hanisi cements Sharks future with two-year deal

Determined to make up for lost time after being sidelined by a knee injury, powerful prop Filomina Hanisi has re-signed with the Sharks until the end of 2027.

Hanisi, who played in the 2024 Grand Final after joining Cronulla from Brisbane, missed most of the 2025 campaign after rupturing her ACL in a season-opening clash with the Eels.

It was a major blow for the 24-year-old Tongan international, who scored her first NRLW try moments before suffering the season-ending setback.

With 25 games under her belt, the destructive forward is eyeing off a successful return after pledging her future to the Sharks on a two-year deal.

"It's always an honour to wear and represent the black, white and blue jersey," Hanisi said.

"The bond and culture we have created at the Sharks is something special, and to be coached by Tony Herman and experience his faith in people - not just on the field but off the field – is something I'll always cherish.

"Sitting out for the 2025 season has added fuel to the fire and I'm excited to run it back in 2026 and 2027 with my Shark family."

Coach Tony Herman said: "Mina is a much-loved member of our club and she'll be back bigger and better than ever next season.

"Her positivity and work ethic despite being injured this year showed exactly why she is valued so highly by her coaches and teammates on and off the field.

"We're excited to watch Mina build her game and help lead our forward pack."

A two-time NSW State of Origin representative, Hanisi has played in three NRLW Grand Finals – the first being a loss to the Broncos in her rookie year with the Roosters in 2020.

She reached the decider again when she lined up for the Eels against the Knights in 2022 but was agonisingly denied a premiership ring for the second time.

After a stint at Brisbane in 2023, Hanisi linked with the Sharks the following year and played the last four matches of a historic campaign by forcing her way onto the bench.

Having become the 11th Sharks player to commit to the club for the next two seasons, Hanisi has her sights firmly set on hoisting the NRLW trophy.
