Anne-Marie Kiria-Ratu nets new Sharks deal

After starting the year without an NRLW contract, Anne-Marie Kiria-Ratu has been rewarded for a rapid rise with a new deal that ties her to the Sharks until at least the end of 2027.

The rangy second-rower arrived mid-year as part of the Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership squad with the goal of eventually working her way up to joining her older sister and fellow recruit Chantay in Cronulla's NRLW team.

But a succession of injuries opened the door for Kiria-Ratu to achieve her dream quicker than anyone predicted, making her NRLW debut against the Wests Tigers in Round 4 and maintaining a place in the 17 for the majority of the campaign.

Kiria-Ratu finished the season with nine NRLW appearances including two playoffs games, scoring a crucial try in an elimination semi-final win over the Cowboys.

The Cook Islands international said: "I'm super excited and grateful to be back in the Sharkies colours. I've fallen in love with the environment here, the club, the culture and especially the girls. I can't see myself being anywhere else.

"This year definitely took me by surprise in the best way possible. If I'm being honest, I didn't think I'd be nine games deep into my NRLW career.

"I'm incredibly grateful to Tony (Herman), Isaac (Michael) and the entire coaching staff for taking a chance on me and backing me from day one. This season challenged me, helped me grow and reminded me why I love this game.

"My goal is to win a premiership and I truly believe we've got what it takes."

Sharks coach Tony Herman said: "Anne-Marie's journey has been made up of resilience and grit, overcoming several long-term injuries to be where she is.

"She came to us this year with no guarantees, but through hard work and persistence she was ready to take her chance when it came.

"It was a pleasure to watch her grow and showcase her combination with her sister throughout the season. A call-up for the Cook Islands in the Pacific Championships was well deserved after her performances this year.

"We're excited to see her continue to develop in 2026 and beyond."
