NRLW Match Preview: Round 10 v Bulldogs

The Sharks are preparing for a blockbuster NRLW match when they tackle the Bulldogs at Accor Stadium on Saturday night.

Coming off a thrilling golden-point victory over the Knights, third-placed Cronulla are brimming with confidence as they seek to seal a fifth-straight win.

Young halfback Chantay Kiria-Ratu booted a clutch field goal in extra time to cap off a sensational comeback for the Sharks last week.

"The mood's been unreal, the buzz has been around (training)," Sharks rookie Steph Faulkner said. "It was a very stressful game, but I'm very proud of Chantay."

Having guaranteed themselves a finals berth with four wins on the trot, Cronulla are hoping to continue their winning form in the final two regular-season games.

However, they know they've still got more improvement to come.

"There are definitely positives we can take out of it, but I don't think we were happy with our performance last week,” star five-eighth Emma Verran said.

Cronulla's strong run hasn't been without setbacks. Front-rower Caitlan Johnston-Green (fractured eye socket) and edge forward Rhiannon Byers (back) are the latest players to be ruled out indefinitely through injury.

Despite winning their first two matches, Canterbury's inaugural NRLW season hasn't exactly gone to plan. They'll enter the match in 11th place, with their only other points coming in the form of a Magic Round draw against the Titans.

Regardless, Cronulla are adamant the Bulldogs are no easy-beats. With several ex-Sharks in their line-up, including halfback Tayla Preston, prop Tegan Dymock, lock Holli Wheeler and centre Andie Robinson, the visitors will be on high alert.

“There's going to be a lot of tensions running high in the game – obviously a lot of our girls have gone over there – and a lot of friendships in the team," Verran added. "But there will be no friendships on the weekend.

"We'll be looking to come away with a win. We know they're really strong up front, they've got a great forward pack, so we know they're going to come hard."

Faulkner also took the time to reflect on her season and how far she's come since making her debut in Round 2 against the Raiders.

"It's unreal, I wasn't even expecting to debut at all this year," she said.

Two of the strongest kickers in the competition will face off in a crucial battle this week. Kiria-Ratu, Cronulla's breakout star, is up against her predecessor Preston, who is renowned for her distance and reliability with the boot.

Kick-off on Saturday is set for 5.15pm, with an NRL clash between the Sharks and Bulldogs to follow at 7.35pm. CLICK HERE to secure tickets.
