A centre with blinding speed and a knack for scoring tries, Michael Gabrael has extended his contract with the Sharks until at least the end of 2027.
Gabrael, an Eels junior who arrived at the Sharks during the 2024 pre-season via the Bulldogs, has seamlessly stepped up from Jersey Flegg to the NSW Cup this year.
The 20-year-old boasts an impressive strike rate with 17 tries from 18 games in 2025 for the Newtown Jets, Cronulla's feeder team.
As expressed by Sharks Head of Football Darren Mooney, Gabrael's signing is an exciting development with his performances thus far indicating a big future.
"Michael has benefitted from two years now training with the NRL squad and we are really happy with how he is progressing," Mooney said.
"Despite still being eligible to play Jersey Flegg he has been one of the Jets' most consistent players in his first season in the NSW Cup this year and there is still plenty of upside to Michael's game going forward," Mooney added.
Gabrael's talent has been recognised at the representative level with selection for the NSW Under 19s in 2024 after playing for NSW City Under 18s a year prior.
"I'm loving my time at the Sharks," Gabrael said.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity I've been given and I'm looking forward to learning from the senior boys and to contributing to the team's success."
Gabrael and the Jets will face the Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park to close out the regular season on Sunday, with a finals spot already guaranteed.
