'Determined' Johnston-Green cleared for special return

World-class prop Caitlan Johnston-Green will make her long-awaited Sharks debut against the Titans on Saturday having been cleared to complete a remarkable return following childbirth.

Having complied with the rigorous NRLW pregnancy policy, Johnston-Green has been elevated to the interchange for an important match at Sharks Stadium after welcoming her first child – daughter Amarah – in May.

The two-time premiership winner has taken the place of utility Nakia Davis-Welsh, who remains in the extended match-day squad as 18th woman.

Fittingly, Johnston – a proud Awabakal and Gomeroi woman – will return in the second week of Indigenous Round as the Sharks wear a special strip.

"The prep's been pretty well looked after from a medical side and I'm excited to put a jersey on for the Sharks," Johnston-Green said.

"I've been tracking really well and my recovery has been really good. To be able to put on Indigenous jersey for the club is even (more) special to me and my family ... To have it at home against the Titans as well is pretty special.

"I was pretty determined to make it back. It's a credit to the medical staff for getting me to where I am. I was just blessed as well to have a good birth with Amarah.

"I wanted to play. It's a long time coming, but I'm excited."

NRLW kick-off is at 12.45pm tomorrow. CLICK HERE to secure tickets – see two electric games for the price of one with an NRL clash to follow!
