Inspired by Quincy Dodd, Cronulla rattled home to secure a 12-all draw with the Roosters in Sunday's NRLW trial at Sharks Stadium.

The match was played in quarters with no shots at goal. It was all the Roosters early doors, the visitors skipping to a three-try lead thanks to a Brydie Parker try followed by a double to representative outside back Jayme Fressard.

After regrouping at the main break, the Sharks found their groove as Dodd produced a dummy-half masterclass. As well as scoring twice in quick succession, the hooker pulled the strings perfectly with her astute short kicking game.

Halfback Chantay Kiria-Ratu and prop Jacinta Carter made their Sharks debuts, enjoying big minutes in solid hit-outs. Kiria-Ratu set up the game-levelling try for centre Grace-Lee Weekes late in the match while former Knights forward Carter carried the ball strongly after partnering Ellie Johnston in the front row.

Neither team fielded their strongest line-up, with Cronulla guns Emma Verran, Tyla King and Jada Taylor kept on ice ahead of a Round 1 clash with the Eels. High-profile Roosters Tarryn Aiken and Jess Sergis also watched from the sidelines.

There was still an international quality to the match as Cronulla's Tiana Penitani Gray, Annessa Biddle and Brooke Anderson renewed the rivalry with their 2024 grand final opponents including Isabelle Kelly, Keeley Davis and Olivia Kernick.

The Roosters struck first when fullback Parker exploited some overzealous defence on Cronulla's right edge to slice through a gap and score out wide.

The visitors almost went back-to-back as Tyra Ekepati intercepted a Georgia Hannaway long ball and set sail for a full-field try, only to be ruled offside.

Both teams made several changes after the first quarter, with New Zealand centre Biddle among the players substituted off for the home side.

Momentum remained with the Roosters, who notched up their second try when Fressard, having shifted from wing to fullback, crossed under the posts. The NSW Blues incumbent made it a brace to close out a dominant first half for the visitors.

Cronulla hit back early in the third quarter through Dodd, who swooped upon a ricochet from a daring Hannaway grubber down the short side.

Hannaway then showed her class with a sweet flat pass that almost led to a try for Nakia-Davis Welsh, but the winger-turned-centre was stopped just shy of the line.

Dodd did it all herself to snare her second try, muscling over from close range to keep the Sharks in the contest. Cronulla's No.9 continued to wreak havoc, forcing two dropouts in close succession as the hosts peppered the Roosters' line.

The scores were levelled when halfback Kiria-Ratu put speedster Grace-Lee Weekes on the outside of her opposite number with a well-placed long ball.

That was the final scoring play of the match, with the teams unable to split in similar scenes to last year's trial when the clubs played out a 20-all draw.

The Sharks will host Parramatta to open the NRLW season on Thursday, July 3.
