The Sharks depth in the outside backs is set to be tested in the coming weeks following injuries to KL Iro and Mawene Hiroti, with the pair expected to be sidelined for extended periods.
Iro underwent surgery last week to repair a ruptured pectoral muscle, an injury suffered in the Sharks loss to the Warriors.
While the surgery was deemed to be successful, there is an estimated recovery period of around three months, with the Sharks hopeful of having Iro available before the end of the 2025 home and away season.
As for Hiroti, a calf issue forced him from the field in the first half of the Sharks win over the Dragons, scans and medical assessments later indicating a strain which will see him out of action and unavailable for around four to six weeks.
While the two senior players will be missed, the Sharks are confident in those available to take their place, with the identity of a backline replacement to be revealed when the team to take on the Broncos is announced tomorrow.
In further injury news, Toby Rudolf made a successful return to the field in the game against the Dragons after seven weeks out with an ankle syndesmosis, while Sione Katoa was outstanding in just his second game of the 2025, the Sharks winger scoring two tries, including a spectacular match-sealing effort late in the second half.
